Jah ShakaIncendiary Sound System maharishi Jah Shaka has defined and defended UK reggae since 1970. Following an apprenticeship with dub master Freddie Cloudburst, Shaka broke loose and has zealously espoused the Sound System as a potent social medium ever since: a reverberating conduit for racial empowerment, community awareness and education.
Hailed as an influence by artists as disparate as Basement Jaxx and The Rootsman, Jah Shaka’s steadfast Rastafarian ideology has galvanised a raft of roots crusaders including Eastern Sher, The Disciples and Jah Warrior.
He’s jammed with King Tubby. He’s dispatched slates by Bim Sherman, Prince Alla and Aswad (amongst others). He’s without doubt one of reggae music’s most influential – and entertaining – figures.
